This would be hell on my knees and back, I think I would throw a heavier lipless or lighter line if I needed to get it down deeper before I did this. Not saying it doesn't catch fish, though.

I’ve stuck my rod in the water while reeling crankbaits a good bit since it’s easy to do in a yak. The problem is, I lose a lot of sensitivity and feel 

Rip it through the top of grass.  Speed is dependent on grass height.

@Aaron_H I can do it easily sitting on the front seat in my jon boat.

 

The reasoning for wanting the additional depth is because if the bass want a 1/2 oz profile & not a larger one or yo-yoing.
