Im about to start building a new house.  I'm going to have what i call a hunting closet.  In the closet I will have a place for most of my stuff including my guns and rods.  My contractor wants to know what to build for rod storage.  Do you guys have a rod rack of some type that you like?  What about the rod holders i see in BPS or Cabella's?  Give me some ideas of what you guys like.

I got a little wall-mounted rod rack I got from my grandpa that holds my rods. I sleep with one eye open, and so far they havn't recieved any damage this winter.

It is one of the cheap plastic ones, but it gets the job done.

What ever you end up doing , make sure it's vertical.

Bass-Brat is right on the money. Store them standing up. If they will be in storage for any length of time, Take the reels off. And back off the drags on the reels.

Where do you keep your rods when not using them?

Each rod inside it 's rod cover and 6 rods to a hard rod tube case, no way I 'm going to leave my rods on display where my 4 year old can grab them.

Want to hear something funny, down here south of the border we begin Christmas celebrations with other festivities called "Posadas", you invite friends and neighboors to the posada, part of the party includes breaking piñatas filled with candies and fruit and sugar cane is part of those fruits, the word in spanish for sugar cane is CAÑA de azúcar, but to make it short everybody refers to it as cañas, my wife and kids went to a posada and my son came home with his bag of fruit and candies. So there we were while my son inspected his bag of goodies, grabbed a chunk of sugar cane and asked me: " what 's this daddy ", "that 's a piece of caña" I replied, he placed it aside and said " this one is for FISHING ", something that brought a good laff from my wife and me, the word in spanish for fishing rod is also CAÑA de pescar, to make it short ---> caña; see the point, the only "caña" he always hears about are cañas de pescar ( fishing rods ) so when I said caña he immediatly assumed it was for fishing.

I take the reels off of the rods, back the drags off, place them into a padded moisture absorbent case. I never stand my rods for long periods of time, my rods are hung buy the tip tops from coffee cup hooks in the ceiling (painted the ceiling color makes them disappear). This is how I have always stowed my gear never had a problem.

 Why would storing them vertically in a wall rack with the reels off them be harmful.  With the reels off, and supported in two spots by the rack, woud they still run the risk of developing a curve in the blank?  Why wouldn't hanging them by the top guide cause damage to the eye?   Please educate me.

I didn't say it would. I just don't use them for long periods. I have 2 vertical racks that I show my customs in. But I don't leave them in it all the time.

I have seen some that did. But I wouldn't suspect that all rods stored that way would. I have seen rods that were stored leaning in a corner without reels attached that set a bend in the blank.

I used coated cup hooks and painted them the same color as my ceiling. Most rods usually in the 3 - 4 oz. range weight wise (without reel), isn't putting enough weight onto the shock rings in a tip top to damage it.

Some (that I don't use much) I have even hung them in their plastic sleeves from the hooks to keep dust and dirt off of them. When you have as many custom rods as I do (working on #50) you can't buy enough racks to hold them all. This way is cheap and I have them all displayed in lengths, powers, and actions.

I must have misunderstood your post.  When you say you wouldn't let them stand, I'm thinking now that you meant leaning them against the wall.  That makes more sense to me now.

With the ceiling hooks, I would mostly be afraid of accidentally damaging them when hanging them, or taking them off the hook.  Thanks for the info RM.

Freshawater rods go on this one. BPS has it and it's not expensive, under 50 I believe. My salwter rods are too fat to fit on it though.

Remove all reels and stand the rods straight up.

Not against the wall but straight up without any pressure on the tip.

And loosen your drags and brakes on your reels to allow the grease to spread.

I use a BPS rod holder in my home's upstairs office. They are safe, out of the cold temperatures and they are fun to look at during the winter months.

I also take them into the shower with me to wash them off after a fishng trip and then I dry each one and spray each guide with Kevin Van Dam's Line and Lure Conditioner.

i have mine laying across the bed in my guest room.  is this bad?  should i do something else?

I have 2 rod racks that I purchased from bass pro I use.  There is one of them in the pic below.  They were oak, but I painted them black to match the decor in our house.

i have 2 rod racks that look like Natural's, but I actually have a outdoors room.  When we bougth the house, the room had green carpet so we painted the wall a light brown to give an outdoors look, and I have my fishing gear, deer heads, gun case, ext. all in there. "my little getaway"
