weedy weeds lure selection

Featured Replies

Well my fav. bank fishing spot fills with mass weeds this time of year, Wondering if there are any prime lure suggestions?

There is a mix of lillys pads and (unknown) weeds.

Only thing i could seem to throw is a spro frog, but it gets boring after a little.

I tried a jig with a trailer and it did not turn out too good.

Any suggestions? change locations?

Thanks.

Try a light weight Texas Rigged Worm but reel it on top like a frog stopping it in openings  :P

A variety of soft plastics can be tried, dropping them into holes or at the edges. Weedless topwaters are a good bet too, a category which your Spro falls into. If that's too boring you can always try a faster-moving bait, like one of the buzzing frogs/toads.

Or you can texas rig a ZOOM speed craw or sweet beaver with a heavy 1/2-1 1/2oz tungsten weight and punch right through the weeds with it, this is known as flipping. This is my favorite technique and I have caught some serious hawgs doing it.

Give it a try, but you do need at least a Medium Heavy action rod and I would suggest 30-50lb braided line.

Here are a few ideas

1. Texas rigged softplastic (Senko or Zoom Lizard) set up with either 1/4 oz or 3/8oz bullet weight.

2. Fat Ika with a 1/8oz weight

3. 1/4oz Tru-Tungsten Weed Wacker and a either a DT Hula Grub or a Zoom Finesse worm.

Try a Mepps Timber Doodle.  If you can find one hanging around someplace in a dusty old tackle shop, an Ozark Mountain Kingfisher is super.
