Spring Training and Bass Fishing

Featured Replies

I'll be heading down to Tampa for spring training as my grandson will be working out with that team that all Red Sox fans despise. I've never been to Florida in Feb, but I understand that is prime time to catch some big fish.

It would be great if someone here, that is familiar with that area, could recommend some places to fish from shore. I'll be blowing most of my spending cash on gas and hotels, so hooking up with a guide is out of the question. I'd be happy fishing some ponds with shore access.

Can't help you with your fishing question, but congrats to your grandson! Did he play minor league ball within the Yankees organization?

LOL, no he’s still in high school. The Yankees 🤮are looking at him as a possible draft option and asked him to come down so their staff can observe him.

Very cool!  Even if it's the Yankees :)

There is lots of inshore wading fishing around if you're interested.  Look on GoogleEarth for ponds close to where you're staying for freshwater.  A lot of ballplayers like to fish, ask around.

Tampa bypass canals, there are access via parks or parking lot under overpasses, use google earth. Search youtube for content, good fish in there, feb should be right in pre spawn/spawn.

And congrats on grandson getting a look. As an O's fan hate to see him go to the yanks.

Imagine how I feel as a Red Sox fan.  He's still in H.S. so he's only going down to work out with the pitchers and catchers. Nothing official, but I'm excited for the exposure he'll be getting. There is some speculation about the H.S. draft, but he's still a year away, a little early to even think about that yet.
