Smith Mountain Lake Questions

Featured Replies

Hey Everyone,

I need to get out of Dodge, so I’m going to go here in mid-February. I have a tournament there in April, and although I know almost nothing I learn in February will be applicable in April, I wanted to see if anyone had any advice for either time. Thanks everyone.

I was thinking about heading up there in May to try something new so I will be following...

I've fished it briefly a few times. It's known for striper I believe. It's pretty deep and clear water. I did see some green growth back in some coves. If the water is warm enough, the party people are out heavy on the lake so watch out for jet skis and wake boats. I was in my kayak, so was pretty limited to protected coves so I didn't get smashed by a wakeboat when I visited.

Not may favorite spot to fish as I don't love ski lakes, but the fish are definitely in there. Please keep us updated on your progress, my buddy has a house there and I get to fish a few times a year so I'm very interested to learn more or see other's success.

I've fished there a few times. Can be a bit moody, but can be tremendous if you get it right. Could do worse than have a morning with Billy Kohles, who's an excellent guide on there, to gain some pointers about what's going on at the time.

I haven’t fished there since I was a kid, have a few friends that make a trip or two there each year for strippers. I’m just over the boarder in WV, but plan to make at least one trip over there this year.

Strippers eh? Which ramp are you launching at to find those... asking for a friend?

They’re not in the lake. It’s a gentleman’s club by the lake.
