newbie need set up advice

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am looking to get a good set up of rod/reel combo and need some advice to cover the basics.

I currenty have 2 Shimanos symeter 2500's and a Quantum energy pt 7.0:1 which I got from my wife on xmas. I dont have a pole for the baitcaster. I am using two 6'6 Clarus rods for the spinning reels.

I got got into bass fishing heavy last spring and used mostly spinning reels and borrowed a friends baitcaster which I learned to love.

I plan on getting another baitcaster in 5.1:1 this spring.

Now finally to my questions.

What rod is best going to suit both of the reels? I know I cant cover all styles of with only fours set ups  but would like to do the best as possible. I think  I would like to us the 5.1:1 for crankbaits mostly and not even sure for the 7.0:1

Any help would be great. I might add a fifth set up too if $ also but dont know as to what would be best. I would like to have a set up for frogs/ top water too is the 7.0:1 good for this?

Welcome aboard!

Take a look at the St. Croix Avid AC66MF or AC70MF. Although the action is rated fast, the tip is soft. The AC66 is my "all-around" baitcaster for spinnerbaits, topwater, jerkbaits, buzzbaits and crankbaits. For jigs and soft plastics I use other equipment with a firm tip.

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michbass,

I tend to stick with BPS Bionic Blades or Extremes in shorter lengths (5'6" to 6') which aren't real popular unless someone has enough set-ups to get one for skipping. I think I would listen to RoadWarrior for rods. He usually has really good opinions on tackle.

Would also like to say WELCOME !!!
