Senko/Fat Ika rod & Reel?

Featured Replies

I have a 6' St. Croix Premier MF baitcaster with a Curado 200B that I use for soft plastics, jerkbaits, light spinners & top waters. I'm looking for a baitcasting  rod and reel set up that I will just use for worms, Senkos and Fat Ikas ect. Most of the rods I own are M/F except my 66 MH/M crankbait & 73 MH/F flip/pitch/frog rod. The number 1&2 qualities i'm looking for are sensitivity and accuracy, with weight comming in a close 3rd. I'm not sure if I should move up to a MH/F 6'6" rod. Also would a 7:1 ratio reel be best for this type of baits? I would like to stay around $325.00 for the combo. Any suggestions would be appriciated.

I would like to stay around $325.00 for the combo.

For that price, I would buy an IMX (783/784 , 843/844 depending on your likes of length and power) from fatfishfarmer and pair it with a Revo SX or a Citica 100DSV.  Any combination of those rods and reels will be spectacular!

Of course, if you skimped on the reel a little, you might be able to buy a GLX from fatfish...    ::o

My advice would be go for the Citica 100DSV ($119.99) then get a Falcon Cara 6'7" Weightless Worm Special ($139.99). The Lowrider XG also offers that model for $94.99 I believe. This rod is specifically designed for Senkos and other weightless baits, but according to many, is an incredible "all-around" rod for most all baits. It is rated for 12-20 and 1/4-3/4oz. baits I believe.

Here are a few links to the rod:

All of the major retailers carry them. I would probably go for the Lowrider as it is a little sturdier of a rod, and use the rest of your cash to buy bags of senkos and ikas.

I've recently got a shimano speedmaster= Curado 7:1 for $147.  on ebay and I'm sure you can get a IMX loomis from fatfishfarmer for around $190 or so.

just as an fyi-fatfishfarmer is all auction now-no 'buy it now prices'.  I noticed it had been this way for about 2 weeks so I emailed him. He confirmed that it will be auction from now on-didn't give a reason why though. Assuming profit margin and/or GLoomis is the reason.  Anyway, our great deals we have been getting may not be as great now......

Regardless of the brand and model you choose, I recommend Medium or MH Power/ Fast Action. I fish a St. Croix Legend Elite spinning rod, ES70MF, for all soft plastics.
