Quantum Energy Pti20 or 30?

Featured Replies

love my PT Energy Burner and Kinetic Pti 10 and am looking at getting another spinning setup for my Powell 702 ML (for now I'm using a Spirex RE drag)...gonna mainly use this rod/reel for finesse lures and lighter rip baits

I would go with the 20.

I like the 30 on everything except my dropshot reel, I have the 20 on it.  The 30 holds a lot more line.

does the added weight of the 30 make up in further casting and a faster retrieve? I use my Kinetic Pti-10 for the DS so this will be for smaller treble hook lures, shaky heads, and some other finesse ...gonna run 8-10lb line

WCCT have you run braid on your 30? any wear yet if so?

I have two Pti 20's and they are awesome. I have one with a St.Croix Avid 6'6'' M that I use for 5'' Senkos and medium sized cranks. The other I have set up with St. Croix Avid 6' ML which I use for light weight lures and weightless plastics. I tried out the Pti 30 and it was to heavy for either other one of my rods. It felt better on my buddies 6'6'' MH Avid. In your case, I would say that the 20 would be perfect with some 6lb Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft or 8lb Pline Evolution or Floroclear.

PTi20 should do fine for the technique you want to use it for.  PTi30 is a bit overkill I think.

ya I'm kind of stuck in a pickle since I don't have a regular medium setup yet (lost in a move) I was gonna try and squeeze by this season with my 7' Powell as my ML/M setup with a Pti-30 but don't want an awkward feeling combo......I'm still unsure about casting vs spinning in the medium dept..my 702 casts pretty accurate but is a little fast in the tip....the Pti-10 Kinetic I have is on a lami 6'9 for smaller finesse DS,SS,Shaky etc so the Pti-30 will be for rip baits/cranks/small plastics etc....

geez if only I could bring my rod into a local shop.....guess that's what you guys are for  :o  keep up the input!

Go with the 20.

Hey, why not the 40?

I have an Energy PTi-A 40. It holds a lot of line, and the larger spool allows the line to come off evenly without any springing. It's especially good with handling lighter fluorocarbon lines. I use it for drop shotting, split shotting, shakey head, finesse jigs, and whole bunch of other finesse situations.

I pretty much only use fluoro on my spinning reels, and this reel handles it the best. But since this doesn't answer your question, I would say go with the 30.

If casting distance and better line handling are important, go with the 30. If light weight and balance are more important to you, the 20 might be better for that rod. Notice I said might be. My advice, go to the tackle shop of your choice, and put one of each on the rod, and see how it feels. If it were me, I'd go with the 30. If you had a 6' rod, I'd say go with the 20.

if you are a multiple species fisherman. Why not go to the 40? Still good for bass and good for pike and such. I did and am quite happy. Only costs you 2 tnths of an ounce or so.

I think the 30 is what I'm after...casting distance is important to me for the more clear lakes around here. balance is important so we'll see how she fits. I wish there was a store around here I could take my rod to believe me. As for multi-species fishing can't say I'd use a 40 on anything aside from maybe a steelhead and haven't done that in ages. boy do I miss the good fight of a steelie!
