Class/DVD/Book for Interpreting 2D Sonar (Depth Finder)

Featured Replies

I would like to get better at interpreting what I am seeing with my 2D sonar. Is there an online resource you recommend? Either free or paid: Class, DVD, YouTube, etc.

For example, I want to get better and seeing soft bottom vs hard bottom. Weeds, Brush Piles, etc.

From your neck of the woods, check out these two:

Technological Angler - Dr. Jason Halfen

Doctor Sonar/High Tech Fishing - Bruce “Doc” Samson

Both have a variety of YouTube/website/newsletter/DVD/class options available that focus as much on the old 2D stuff as the newer tech.

Doc Samson is good for general 2D sonar interpretation.

To get the most out of your sonar run at manual settings to optimize current on the water conditions.

Don Iovino’s paper back book Finesse Bass Fishing and the Sonar Connection is dated  but it’s spot on understanding 2D sonar.

@Team9nine @WRB,

I purchased/watched Doc Samson's DVD on 2D sonar. Very great info. Thanks for sharing.

I'm waiting for Technological Angler's DVD to come in the mail.

I wanted to add a good resource I found:

I wasn't impressed with the "Technological Angler's DVD." I don't recommend this one.
