I've towed people in twice. If you have the room it's nice to have a dedicated tow rope.

i was maybe 18 years old.  my mom was maybe hoping to collect on life insurance because she bought us a POS boat.  it had a 70hp Chrysler motor.  the steering was a rod, you pulled back and forth.   my first launch i forgot, or didnt know about the drain plug.  duh!  a guy launching nearby helped me and my younger brother.  NOBODY told me about how to float a boat off a trailer.  haha..or how to back one.

all day long that same gentleman kept us within eyeshot.  i knew what he was doing.  making himself available if we got into trouble.   i'll never forget it and i still pass it along when i can.

i probably got less than 20 fish from that boat EVER.

If you break down and need assistance, you will soon find out how many people do not realize what three whistle blows or air horn blows actually mean.  I went to help a vessel out on Perry Lake in KS and after going over to them to help, I found out it was an idiot letting his toddler blow the horn just for fun.  I had to inform him of what the distress call was to be used for!
