Berkley Stunna nose down position

Featured Replies

I purchased some Berkley Stunnas over the winter and noticed that they sit nearly 90 degrees nose down.  Occasionally they will tip forward, about 45 degrees down from horizontal.  It looks very unnatural.  I emailed Berkley and they said they should only be slightly nose down.  I have not changed the hooks or made any modifications.  Water temps were in the 50s.   Any thoughts?

A more extreme down bill attitude will give you a more extreme side to side action.  Fish them and see if they catch fish... mine do.

I have not fished them too much yet. If this is normal then I won’t fret about it.  Thanks.

@lavbasser I've done well with them too and haven't noticed what you're seeing.  They have an aggressive posture, but not 90 degrees.  Is this posture when you drop it right next to the boat?  Sometimes it takes the cast and a pull or two for the weight transfer system to set up properly internally.

If you are catching fish with them I would not mess with them. If you make changes it will change the lures swimming action ever so slightly. That might change how attractive it is to the fish.

Guessing this is the answer. Most modern jerkbaits have a weight transfer system that allows them to be cast further. The steel ball in the Stunna probably needs to be released from its current position with a cast for it to sit right.

This is how it sits no matter how I work it.  I have ripped it hard and slow several times repeatedly and it nearly always C9217F06-F307-43C8-ADF3-1DD92AE5DA70.png.916f7923d0ecf62e54e61612224e8c9a.pngsits at 90 degrees down.   The weight inside the bait is resting in the front position during the retrieve, which is probably correct.  It shifts to rear position on a cast to help with casting.

Cracked, taking on water? Not good imo, looks done to me.

These are brand new.  They all, so far, sit this way.  I am reaching out to Berkley again.

I do better with Stunna's than Vision 110's.

Got a close up of a bait? Is the internal weight stuck? Something aint right

The weight slides back and forth correctly.  As soon as i start the retrieve the tungsten ball moves to the forward position.

I recently saw underwater footage of the Stunna 100 on YouTube and it does not sit anything like the ones I bought.  Berkley saw the photo and agreed and are replacing mine under warranty.

Someone  left a review about this on TW several weeks ago and that motivated me to check mine.

At least they're making it right. Those things are too expensive to be duds.
