Clearlake wind

Featured Replies

Hey all

I'm planning on making a trip out to Clearlake next week and just looking for some safety tips. I'll be fishing from a kayak and I've heard the wind can get pretty bad. Is there a daily/seasonal pattern to the wind? Any suggestions on where to launch if the wind kicks up?

My plans were to launch at the state park and fish around there and maybe make my way down to soda bay. Backup plan was probably Rodman slough or Braito's. I appreciate any info! I'm excited to get out there.

Suggest you study Clear Lake wind map.

Currently showing south to north wind as light breeze.

Thanks yeah I keep an eye on forecasts the week leading up to the trip. I was just wondering if there were any localized patterns that tend to get overlooked by the forecasts. Like my local lake has a tendency for winds to kick up in the afternoons.

Wind can kick up in the afternoons as well at Clear Lake.  I've had some wet rides in my boat getting back to the launch sites.  With a kayak just know your capabilities and don’t push it.  Stay relatively close to shore and you should be fine.  If it’s blowing hard in the morning it will usually continue throughout the day.

Much appreciated!

you can expect summer winds in the afternoon to increase as the inland eastern valley heats up over 100 degrees with the cooler bay air pushing NE toward the hot valley areas.

the NOAA Weather "tabular data" function allows you to anticipate the wind each hour you expect to fish.    in the main lake outside of Braitos, and StatePark the waves get wild.   at Statepark, it seems like the waves are always 45 degs from the direction i hope to go.

Thanks for the info everyone. The tabular function is new to me! It's looking like it's gonna be a hot week. Might have to try some night fishing
