Big Bite Baits BSE (Best Skipper Ever)

Featured Replies

What are the thoughts on this bait? I would love to learn how to skip and this bait seems to skip easily plus if has that forward slide action so it actually moves towards the bass instead of away. Just wondered if this bait works and actually performs like the hype?

I say, learn to skip with a jig. I am still learning, and I'm using jigs, brush hogs, and flukes because those are the lures I am going to use when I become proficient at skipping.

What has helped me is watching some videos about skipping, and noticing the subtle body, wrist, and rod motions of those skipping.

I also turn my magnetic brake all the way up which helps a lot. Then backing it off a little and you start getting a feel for it.

After a bit, you start getting it. Yesterday I was fishing, and I needed to skip, I didn't adjust my brakes, I didn't think about it, I just skipped right under a bridge with no backlash. I wish I could it all the time.

It's OK to turn the brakes up every time you want to skip.  If you are using your Tatula you can scroll the mag dial while palming the reel.  You can be holding the rod and reel reeling in a bait while scanning the shore for your next target and then scroll the dial up to a higher brake setting or max without having to stop palming/reeling and to search for a dial to turn.  The Daiwas like the Tatulas are adjustable while palming. Just move your thumb on the palming hand from the top of the frame to over where the top of the mag dial is and scroll it towards you to increase braking and scroll away to decrease.

I didn't know that. I guess I'm the only one that doesn't have a Tatula.

I thought you bought one and put it on the rod that came with your black max combo?

I looked at them, I like the concept, but I couldn’t bring myself to buy them.

Aside from being content with my usual skipping baits, I honestly try to avoid purchasing anything under the GSM umbrella.

No sir. For quite a while I had a BPS Pro Qualifier 2 on the Black Max rod, but have went back to the Black Max reel for now.
