Curado 150M vs 150MGL: Both have MagnumLite spools?

Featured Replies

My apologies if this question has already been asked a thousand times before; I wasn't able to find anything from my initial searching.  I'm in the market for a new baitcasting reel for my crankbait setup, and was nearly ready to pull the trigger on a Curado 150 MGL when I saw an AI generated Google response suggesting that the 150M is actually the newer/better reel.  Digging a little deeper, it does appear that the 150M also has a MagnumLite spool (specifically the MGL III spool), and that they are both the same price.  Can anyone weigh in on what the differences are between the two reels, and what conditions one might be better suited for than the other?

The original 150 probably has the 1st Gen MGL spool while the new 150M has MGL3 and that's the only difference between the two that I can tell.

Curado 150 MGL has the MGL Spool II, new Curado 150M has the MGL Spool III. Difference ideally should be lower startup inertia so further casts and able to handle lighter baits more effectively than the 150 MGL. Your mileage may vary, the 150 MGL is already a lot of reel for the money.

I'm holding out for MGL IV, where the Curado fights Dolph Lundgren.

That said, I have the MGL and it’s a workhorse for me. I really should grab another or 2. They were on sale somewhere recently for like $150. Shoulda bought more then, but I didn’t.

If I like the mgl 150 would I also like the new 150m

It is the same reel (same frame and everything) with an improved spool. I cannot speak for you, but I would think you would like it if you are already a fan of the 150 MGL.
