Big Game Fluorocarbon review.

Featured Replies

Bought a couple of spools of Big Game fluorocarbon in 6, 8 and 10 lb test.  Yesterday I put some 10 lb on a Shimano 2000 size spinning reel and went fishing.  I trolled it behind the boat for 5-10 minutes to straighten it out and wound it back on the reel.  Tied on a super spook with a 3/0 hook as straight as I could and casted it a few times.  It snarled with the first few casts which I got straight and casted again a few times.  It snarled again and I cut off 20 or 30' and went back to fishing.  Fish were boiling and I cast again and the fluke went 30' with a big snarl.  The line feels stiff for use on a spinning reel and I don't recommend it.  I transferred the line to a baitcasting reel and am going to try it.  More to come.

Spray some KVD Line conditioner the night.

Super Spooks come with treble hooks on them. Even all the copy’s as Lucky Craft, Daiwa, Megabass etc..

So why or how is a 3/0 hook being employed?

Try PLine CX on spinning, it’s a soft line with great line management capabilities.

I would try the 6 pound on your 2000 size reel , avoid over filling or spooling on backwards. Fluorocarbon lines are stiffer than a mono or a soft co-poly lines.

Meant a super fluke.  I throw a spook on a baitcaster.  I've always used mono or braid on my spinning reels and fluorocarbon on baitcasters; think I'll continue.

I recently tried Big Game fluoro in 10 pound on casting gear. It casted fine for me without any prep or conditioner. Can't say I liked it or not, as it was my first time trying fluoro, I just didn't have any issues casting it.

I got got by Berkley with Vanish years ago. It was so bad that I’ll never give Berkley another chance with fluorocarbon. Still use XL and Big Game mono though.

@Alex from GA Hats off to you for giving 10# fc a try on a reel that size. I have never done more than 8# on my spinning reels and only because it was invizx, which to me is a fc that seems more limp than other fc lines.

I just saw some big game fc at Walmart and was thinking about trying it on a casting reel so I hope you report back on how it does with your bc reel.

FC or Mono line that exceeds .010 diameter has too high memory for use on size 1000 to 3000 spinning reels.

Berkley Big Game FC is .010 diameter for 6 lb, 011 dia for 8 lb and .012 dia for 10 lb , making 6 lb the only choice for bass size spinning reels.

Why Berkley introduced another FC line that is larger diameter than Seaguar and Sunline make no sense to me.
