Passing through Walmart & saw a Curado CU200B on clearance for $49.00.  It appears to be in good shape.

Would this be a good reel for a BC newbie?  I expect that I will be fishing with lighter lures 1/8 to 1/2 oz this year?

I usually don't think baitcaster, but I've seen Curado all over the forum.  Even though it's not the latest version, I thought it might be a good deal  

Since I'm waiting from my new spinning outfit to arrive, it's hard to justify spending too much more  :-/

What else would be needed for an inexpensive BC setup, i.e. ML or M Rod, line and anything else I might not be thinking of.

Buy it, Buy it now. It is a great reel and that is a fantastic price. I only see two small issues with what you want to use it for. As a newbie to baitcasters, you may have some problems throwing those 1/8 oz lures. It can be done, but it does take a pretty well trained thumb.

The other issue you may have is something that I am experiencing now myself. The CU200B was my first "real" baitcaster and it was so easy to use that its scary, the problem is, I tried to use a Revo SX for a while and I absolutely couldn't get an handle on it, no matter what I did, it was backlashing. The point is that the CU200B is so easy to use, it may make it difficult transitioning to other reels.

And like others have said, if you don't like, you will certainly be able to sell it for what it cost you, but probably more.

Went back to Wally World. Waited at the Sporting Goods counter for 25 minutes and had at least 8 people ask me if I work their (just because I was wearing a tie). I went to customer service and learned that they had lost the keys to the counter and could not open it.

At least a got a $10 gift card for my troubles.

Hopefully it will be there for a day or two longer

The reel is great.  It's like a chronarch but less pretty and more plastic.  I have both.

I have the 201 SF and out of all reels I own I would say it is the easiest to use.  If you're learning a baitcaster, it would be an excellent choice.

Will do, that's exactly the type of information I was looking for.  

Most probably that reel has been sitting inside the counter for quite a while ( caked or dry grease, evaporated oil ) ----> time to send it to David ( RM ) for a in depth and thorough lubrication.

Great suggestion Raul.  I had already been wondering if I should have it serviced by RM, and even considered having it tuned.  But, I might be getting ahead of myself...

I have a CU201B, the best thing I did to it was dump the ABEC3 (stock spool support) bearing packs, and upgraded to Shimano® ABEC5's, I also did some polishing of all free spool friction points. This added more distance to the casting, and I didn't have to pay an arm and leg for some noisy ceramics. Plus I added Carbontex drags to the system, she is set for this season, now when I get my Scorpions I am really going to have some fun.
