I just bought the Daiwa Tatula Cork Spinning Rod 2 piece TTUL682MFS as back of the truck setup for pond and river fishing in my area but mostly to teach my kids and neighborhood kids how to fish with a simple but quaility setup.  I paired it with a Legalis 2500 and will spool it with braid to floro and chop the leader for top water pond fishing. I've never had a back of the truck setup because everything has always stayed in the boat.  Does anyone have any experience with the tatula 2 piece cork? I'm careful when seperating the the two pieces but putting them together I always get a little cautious I will do damage or get it stuck. Any suggestions on truck storage/protection? I was thinking about pvc or a pool noodle or something to keep it safe. Thanks

My granddad used to put Chapstick on the joints of his 2 piece rods - never saw one stick or get loose. 
 

I’ve always carried my truck rod in a custom case (piece of 2 1/2” PVC with slip caps). 

I've had some 2 piece rods in the past. A couple of times the rod popped apart, but it's pretty rare. I wouldn't be too terribly concerned, it's like any other rod.

 

Back when I had a truck, I used to keep a two piece rod behind the headrests of the back seat year round. You can stick the reel under a seat.

I’ve had zero issues with a 2 piece St. Croix spinning rod coming apart and I’ve had and used it for a long time. As far as storage if you’re worried you can hop on Amazon and grab a 2 piece rod holder for under $30.00. They have nicer ones as well but here’s an example.

paraffin - Gulfwax - is the correct plastic-ferrule grease - recommended by J.K. Fisher since 1968 (from '84 catalog).  

 

I used to carry one of the quarter-sized flat candles in my fly fishing bag for multipiece-rod ferrules.  

There are newer micro-grain ferrule waxes, which harden stiffer, until they begin to flow again.  

 

The people who always swore nose grease was all they needed for ferrule wax also always swore again when they were squatted with their rod behind their knees trying to break the joint.
