Shimano Rods

Featured Replies

I visited Tackle Warehouse website to purchase Shimano Zodias spinning rod. $50.00 increase. So, I checked the Exprides, same! This happened this week. I purchased a Shimano Expride B 7'2" m/h fast on August 15, 2025. Cost was $279.99. Now, $329.99. Wowser. New and improved model? I don't know. Checked other website, same.

Ouch. I’m afraid we will all be paying more going forward..

just received response from Tackle Warehouse and I quote: "related to inflation and tariffs". I should have pulled the trigger earlier this week. Dang it.

Yea what sucks is those rods are already in stock so why is there a $50 increase? It’s not like they’re on a ship heading here now.. of course business does this with about everything anymore, fuel prices especially. Or in recent history egg prices.

To pay for the ones on order from Shimano to replenish stock.

Also MAP I think.

Mainly it boils down to simple retail economics....I managed a convenience store for a while and here's an example.

 - Crystal Sugar tells it's distributors that they're raising the wholesale cost by 3%

 - Distributor tells our main office of the cost increase.

 - Main office confirms it and authorizes a price increase.

Now MY store still has 3-4 weeks of supply on hand based on average sales so I don't have to order for a bit. BUT I increase the price immediately so that when I DO have to order, I'm not cutting into profit earned to pay for the resupply.

Minimum Advertised Price. Like MSRP but mandatory.

In this case it's MAP. Same for Daiwa.

And they'll turn it around and point you at the yahoos out east who started the whole thing.

The MAP increase is BECAUSE of the tariff being applied...otherwise Shimano (and others) would not make any profit.

I have said before, to me it makes no sense to get an Expride at the new price when you can get an Imx Pro for a little bit more. So far, Loomis prices haven't increased..even though Shimano has owned them for almost 30 years now lol

Cause the Loomis rods are still made in the US - not subject to tariff - while the Shimano rods are made in Japan/Korea/Malaysia/etc and subject to tariff. Doesn't matter where the home company is based, it depends on where the manufacture takes place.
