Fuego CT CT100HS issues / questions -cast control cap

Featured Replies

A year ago using this reel, the "cast control cap" (proper name on the Daiwa parts diagram) came off and fell in the lake.  The one I ordered has arrived a year later.  I replaced it today and it does not affect how fast my line drops like it needs to...and the spool still rattles even though I have the cap tightened as far as it will go.  I don't know if there were other parts that I need to order that went under the cap and can't tell from the parts diagram.  Any ideas as to fix this issue?  I'll be the first to admit I am no expert.

I assume when you say spool still rattles means side to side play?

You more than likely needed more than just the cast control cap. There was probably 2 or 3 other parts you needed according to this schematic (if the correct one)

https://www.reelschematic.com/wp-content/uploads/schematics/Daiwa/Fuego/Daiwa Fuego FGCT100H_100HS_100XS.pdf

Possibly parts 52, 53, & 54.

Is your O ring #52 still on the reel? I am wondering if you lost the cast control cap because of the O ring missing? It usually provides enough friction to keep the cap from backing off and getting lost. It would be located on the reel's threads to go under the cap as it is screwed onto the reel.

Then parts 53 & 54 would complete the cap's effectiveness.

Schematic says the part numbers are as follows (if correct schematic)

52 = B05-5201 (O ring)

53 = J21-3101 (spacer)

54 = B17-5503 (cap rubber washer)

You need the washers that fit under the cap.  Also, you don't need to use spool tension with that reel or any reel really.  You can if you want to but this idea that you have to use spool tension based on bait weight of all things is utter nonsense.

If you have another Diawa baitcaster, take off the knob and look inside. You'll see what you're missing .

Yea. Contact Daiwa via phone if possible and tell them your story. Or, order from the schematic. I’m surprised you didn’t do that initially to be honest.

Whatever Japans new philosophy is on spare parts availability is concerning. I’ve seen a trend the past few years of non-availability and months of waiting for items. 20 years ago I could literally order from Shimano and they always had what I wanted or needed and have even billed me for things, things like spare spools , brakes and gear sets. Idk what has happened. I buy work reels like this: I have several Daiwa Zillion 1000HD reels, all the same gear ratio. I will probably buy 2 more when the tariffs get more understood. Philosophy is if I have to, I will cannibalize one for parts for the others, and order parts or not, based on age or availability of needed parts.

I'm a little shocked it’s taken a year for a cast control knob though.

You could probably buy an aftermarket one from a Japanese vendor like HedgeHog..EBay etc

I've heard it takes forever to get parts from Daiwa US.  The key is to not use Daiwa US and order from Japan such as through Plat.  The best advice i can give is to just pretend that Daiwa US doesn't exist.  They only exist to inflict pain, suffering and misinformation on those that don't know that Daiwa is a Japanese company.  You want to wait 6 months to a year for a part to show up?  Use Daiwa US.  Want completely wrong information about a Daiwa reel?  Visit the Daiwa US website.

“Lean Six Sigma” happened. What once was a good idea (Kaizen/5S) went completely out of control, and spare parts are now considered a business liability. When I was working in a pump shop, they hired a company to bring everything to this standard, and we’d have days of downtime waiting on basic parts to arrive from a third party warehouse.

I’ve heard this from many Daiwa users, & that’s very unfortunate. I will definitely keep Plat in mind and have been on their site before. I have a friend on here who knows Japan inside & out and sometimes I think he lives there or even engineered the place. 😂😂😂 @bulldog1935

Welp that’s interesting. Is that an international standard now? Is this the problem with parts availability in Japan? Customer service use to be stellar. Shimano was outstanding and that kept me loyal. But now it seems both Shimano & Daiwa are lacking..

Which is why I’ll sacrifice a reel for parts IF needed.

Waiting a year for parts seems odd.

My first thought is always check plat.co.jp

Repair parts is one of their best things.

Throw in a few lures with your parts order.  I always check their Garage Sale.

I found most of these lures there.

It started in Japan, went completely nuts over here, and now investor groups and financial companies are demanding it worldwide.

I walked away from machining after an argument with a 6S consultant turned into a heart “episode” (over a $30 bearing).

All good now! I can look back and laugh - there’s absolutely no glory in going down fighting with a 98 pound dude carrying a clipboard.
