Largest diameter (pound test) non-braid line do you use?

Featured Replies

The largest for me is 12 pound Sufix Siege, which I think is 0.014 diameter.

With a palomar knot I can't break it when I get snagged, I have to cut it

I use a lot of 12# on my MH rods.  It's just that I didn't want to spool 170 yards of it on one reel.  Thus the questions.  I'm going to give the Advance 20# a shot.  No idea how it will handle.  Hopefully not like a slinky.  :teeth:

Will give a try at pitching into semi-heavy cover with a jig and plastic first.  Thanks.

Maximum strength non-braid?

  • Swimbaits: 20 lbs Big Game monofilament
  • "Other": 15 lbs Big Game monofilament
    • Larger crankbaits/topwater: 15 lbs Big Game monofilament
    • Medium Crankbaits: 10-12 lbs Big Game monofilament
    • Smaller crankbaits/topwater: 6-8 lbs big Game/Ande monofilament
  • Leader (attached to braid
    • 6-8 lbs fluorocarbon (usually Daiwa J-Fluoro Samurai Hidden Concept)

Straight FC is typical smaller in diameter than say Yozuri Hybrid.

I use as high as 50 pound as a leader material when dropping rigs out in the Gulf, but I will at times run 25 Yozuri.

Now I’m using 16 pound Shooter, and 22 pound Daiwa FC line. The structure should determine the line diameter you need. Modern FC lines cast quite good even at larger line diameters.
You get what you pay for..

I use 15 lb Big Game.  According the the TW website the diameter is ,015 inches.

20 pound Big Game which is the diameter of 30 pound fluoro.  I think it breaks at the 30 pound range too when tested by TT IIRC.  To me, it's my preferred swimbait non braid line and leader.  It some huge diameter high pound test non braid with the name "20 pound Big Game".
