What crankbait rod.....

Featured Replies

Would you recommend in the 100-150 dollar range?

I'll be pairing it with a lews super duty 300 reel

To throw what crankbaits?  A DT20 and a spro little john need different rods.

I assume he won't be casting #5 Shad Raps with that reel, but that still leaves quite a range of lures!

Lew’s offers good crank bait rods at reasonable prices. Match the rod with the reel size. 300 size reels can handle deep divers or square bills, let lure weight be your guide.

I was thinking 5-15 ft divers

I don't have any right now.

I have some square bills, but I don't think they go more than 4-6 ft deep. I bought them used and I'm a noob when it comes to crank baits

@LokiDawg- if you don’t already have the reel, I wouldn’t use a 300 size for ‘normal’ bass crankbaits.  A 100-150 sized reel will have more than enough capacity and will perform far better on a ~1/2 oz crankbait.

Using Rapala lingo, you’re talking about something for a DT6 up to a DT16 give or take.  Those will run 3/8-3/4 which is a pretty common range for mid depth crankbaits.  That is also a pretty common rating for lots of crankbait rods.  You don’t specify a length you’re looking for.  For me, 7-7’3” is my preference for that size crankbait.  I throw the Hudson special from falcon (expert line) but at the $100 price point they have the Bucoo in the deep runner with the same specs.  I also use the 7’ trapcaster in the bucoo range for the DT6/10 sized crankbaits though a 16 would be a bit big for it (fine in a pinch, but I wouldn’t chose it).

Dobyns Fury FR 705CBhas long been a well regarded crankbait rod. It's a MH/Mod Fast and has an MSRP of $149

If you’re looking to stay around $100.00 13 fishing offers a few different crankbait bait specific rods ranging from $60-$100.00 that should fit the bill for you. Although I don’t own this specific rod I do have a $80.00 rod from them that I really like. Here’s the crankbait specific rod. I will also add BPS has a crankbait specific rod in their in house lineup also for $80.00.IMG_5200.png.0434d6805bd498999aac75589e90aa66.png
