Tackle System for a road trip?

I have some plans for a few minor road trips. One, I will visit NC to see the wife's folks for a few days or a week. The other, we'll visit FL to see the wife's sister. For both, I am planning on doing some fishing.

It's possible I would be able to take my plastic 2 man pond hopper. But most likely I'll be bank fishing. Also it's possible I could rent a jonboat or go with a friend on a boat.

Right now I'm thinking that a 3700 sized tackle box for my bulk storage, and then a backpack to fit 1-2 boxes would be a good compromise. The big box i'd have all my extra, and adjust the boxes in my backpack accordingly.

When I was a kid I had a box like this, though the one I had consisted of 2 drawers and 2 removable boxes. This would make for a good home away from home base I think.

Anyone have a better idea?

I think you have a good plan.  But beware.  I did something similar, “home base” that is.  That lasted less than a season.  I got tired of transferring tackle and stuff for different trips.  And it was especially irritating to reach for a lure and discover I hadn’t transferred it to the bag I was using.  So I ended up stocking small bags for my kayaks, a sling pack for bank fishing, and larger bags for my boat.  Consequently, I have duplicates of everything I consider essential.  And when I do find something new that I want, I often feel compelled to buy 3 (1 for kayak, 1 for boat, and 1 for the bank).  It’s  insane I think, but I’d like to think I’ll have what I think I need regardless if I’m on the bank, floating or jetting.

Fishing new waters I’d keep it super simple and confidence baits.  Florida water will be hard to use anything treble hook from the bank. It’s gonna be alot of weedless plastics. I fished there my whole life before moving to Iowa. Weightless soft plastics definitely get it done. Don’t forget you need a fishing license when ya get there! Man those trips sound fun!!

So, what are some of my must have lures for fishing Florida? Frogs, flukes, Senkos?

Vegetation and filamentous algae can be thick in Florida. So weedless is the way to go. Texas rigged worms and stuck baits, flukes, frogs are great as well. Green pumpkin and watermelon red and black/blue glitter are very popular colors there. I always liked a stick bait, trick worm or 10” ribbon tail were my favorites. Or a plain old zoom fluke. Look for lily pad fields brush and algae covering the surface. Like any other bass they love cover
