Help Spec my Rod/Open Face Reel/Line

Featured Replies

Hey Bass Resource Nation,

I do mostly spin casting using Senkos, creature baits with some SpinnerBait/Flipping Fishing.

I do prefer the longer rods that have great action and reels that have a decent gear ration for one turn of the reels

Im open to fishing line as long as it doesnt twist and gets decent distance. lol but with larger lb test I dont see it a factor.

Its my Christmas present from my wife. ha

Thanks

What is your budget?

There's likely a million different great combinations of possibilities.

By open face you are asking about spinning reels in today terms.

Spinning reels twist line period and line diameter is limited using monofilament or fluorocarbon lines. Sizes 2500 and 3000 are generally the same size with 3000 having deeper spool.
To resolve the line twist suggest super braid very diameter to strength ratio.

The 2500 & 3000 are common bass reels with about .010 dia line max with mono lines. Size 4000 reel you can up to ..013 diameter line.

Flipping with a spinning reel you/will need braid for strength and a Medium Heavy spinning rod.

Look at Tackle Waterhouse, they have a wide variety of both rods, reels and line to choose from.

Thanks Tom I will check it out for Cyber Monday.

Off topic but I have bought line for $30+ that had the diamter of 4 lb test but the strength of 8lb test.  This was to fish SMB in a river by my house. Long story short the line twisted so bad I was getting a tangle literally every cast.

Went to get a refund @ Cabelas and they do not take refunds on line.

Make sure you are operating the reel correctly.  There are a couple things you can do to reduce line twist.
