BPS BLACK TECHNIQUE SPECIFIC CARBONLITE RODS

Has anybody used either the 6 ft. Or 6-9 version. Admittedly im a Bubba fisherman. Over the years ive added ned rigs and lighter line. Im putting together a bfs settup and need opinions on these 2 rods. Im leaning towards the 6-9 Super finesse version. Its rated a micro smidgeon heavier than the 6 footer. Are these rods really enough to land 5 and 6 pound smallies on 6 lb test florocarbon? Thanks in advance.

I haven't, but I've had the 6'9" Super Finesse in my cart and I'll pull the trigger shortly. Oddly, I've had $130 in BPS gift cards sitting around, so those will just about cover it. The few reviews on the finesse models seem ok and the 10 year warranty makes it worth taking a shot IMO.

I have the deep cranker. Its awesome. Im just not used to bass on something that light. Right now i have a lews pro sp on a jm signature series m extra fast. It will cast 1 /16 spinners.  I don't like the extra fast for that app. Im just leary how a light action is going to handle bass. It should cast way easier and more accurately and give some more distance.

I’m actually quite interested in this exact rod myself and can’t wait to get to my local BPS to handle one along with the 6’-0” BFS model. Funny enough I didn’t know they existed until @ghost pointed them out to me although I’m not sure if he owns one or not and hopefully he will chime in one way or another.

I want there Wacky Rig spinning rod . Checked em out and im gonna get one. They all feel good . Nice line up for the money

I walk by these and they seem to catch my eye every time. Already own a good frog rod at this point but if I didn't that 6'9" HF would be on the top of my list as it checks a lot of boxes for me when it comes to a frog rod. Also hard to argue with their warranty at that price...

I don't own the BPS Carbonlite BFS rod...yet.

I'm gonna wait for the spring sale next year to pick up the 6'9" one. I've handled that BFS rod in store and it's similar to the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse 6'9 BFS rod that I own.

I've added pics of the specs for both rods.

Can't comment on the rods but you should have no problem landing 5 or 6 pound fish on 6# line.  Approximately 60 years ago I landed a 20# catfish and 35# carp on 8# XL.  Rod definitely no more than medium power.  About 55 years ago my best smallmouth was around 3# or a bit more on a ML rod and 4# XL.  Makes for a fun time.  :teeth:

This is why I’m excited to get my hands on this series. As I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with all of my previous BPS rods and reels I’m expecting no less with this series. I’m going to try to make a trip in the next 2 weeks but I’m also going to wait for the trade in sale as I have both a rod and reel ready to be traded in and currently my favorite ponds are frozen over.

Unlike typical true BFS reels, the Pro SP has a lot more potential drag. I'll assume that it isn't as delicate on its lighter settings as a true BFS reel if it has a multi-disc drag stack, but I could be wrong. My only concern with using that reel on an ultra light/light rod would be properly measuring and calibrating the drag to protect the rod. I caught plenty of bass on ultra-light rods when I was a kid, so I don't think you need to worry too much about that especially if you let the drag do its part.

In your particular case, the only hairy thing would be when smallies run under the boat. Even a 3 pounder will fold a MH over pretty good in that scenario. You might need to be prepared to click the thumbar and thumb the spool to allow it to run until you can get it back out in front of you, especially if you're still fishing from a Jon boat and you need to remain seated. I have no way of knowing how tough these sticks are.

Sierra is a great rod. I have 2. If Halo made a light HFX i would buy that over the others. I have a Halo HFX its great.

I bought on of the 6'9 during when it was on sale as I wanted a light rod for finesse, It feels great but not yet caught anything yet. I have always liked carbon light rods in the past. When they went to white color rods, It was just an eyesore for me.

Now they are back to their native color (black) they will get my money.

Agree white rods are hideous.

Although not a lot of on water experience’s it sounds like the 6’-9” is quite popular. I couldn’t agree more with the white and gold color combo and although not the only reason it definitely helped me decide to sell my casting combo. I’m down to a white Lews TP1 rod which at least has black wrapping and a Carbonlite 2.0 spinning combo as of now.

A light powered rod will definitely handle good fish. Here's 2 examples from this year. The smallie was from the Broad River, heavy current. Both came on Texas rigged plastics on Ryugi Pierce 1/0 hooks.

First off Beautiful fish👊🏻 Secondly if you don’t mind sharing what’s the setup as far as rod, reel and line if you don’t mind sharing?

The smallie was on a 6'8 Poison Glorious with Aldebaran BFS and the green one was a Levante 6'4 L and Curado BFS. Both had 8lb braid on them to a 7lb fluoro leader. I have a Kastking Kestrel MFS and Kestrel 6'9" L and it's handled 18" smallies also. You learn to rely on your drag.

I pulled the trigger on the 6’-9” light power Super Finesse rod this week. I’m very excited to get this rod out on the water this upcoming season.
