Expride 7’6 MH for treble hooked baits?

Featured Replies

Ive heard good things about this rod for single hooked moving baits but has anyone here tried throwing treble hooked baits on their Expride 7’6 MH/MF?  I don’t mind fishing walking baits on a longer rod, so I’m curious how it would handle baits like a SB 105 to 125 sized topwater?
What about lipless cranks?

Sure, I have a 6" trick shad tied on mine at the moment. I haven't used it for spooks or traps but I think it would handle them fine. Don't really get a chance to throw deep diving cranks from the bank much but that would probably be the rod I grabbed to try it from my current arsenal.

What line are you running on it?

Braid to leader at the moment but I also have the 77H both have bantam MGLs, 77 currently spooled with straight fluoro and the reels get swapped from time to time.

Good to hear. I’d probably run 30lb braid for topwater and bottom hopping lipless baits.

I think it would work fine but the length might bother me with how I work topwater.  Mine is used for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, swim jigs, swimbaits (swag LT), and sometimes carolina rig.  Its a really versatile rod that I'm sure would be good with chatterbaits, t-rig soft plastics, and jigs but I have other rods for those things.  Recently switched from braid-leader to straight fluoro, which I'm liking for spinnerbaits and the 4-6" soft swimbaits.

Topwater would be a secondary use, single hooked moving baits and some jigs would be my main uses. I don’t mine a little longer rod for topwater though because casting distance is very important for me, and I could walk the bait with the rod to the side to avoid hitting the water.

I’m also curious to try a longer rod with braid for bottom hopping lipless baits. Id like to have good sensitivity but also be able to keep fish hooked. I guess I’ll see how it goes.

I also have the glass 76mh expride which is what I use to bottom hop lipless, with fluoro though.  Drastically different rod than the non glass but the length really helps for those bomb casts.
