I was looking at a Curado BFS reel and just thought I've got 4 of these mgl 71s here at the house. Can i just buy a spare BFS spool and swap them out? Google search says yes but I wanted to double check with the people.

No. Beyond fitment issues, not sure if the spools are actually the same diameter/width etc, the brake systems are not cross compatible.

MGL uses centrifugal brakes with a physical brake race in the palm side plate. BFS is magnetic brake, without the magnets in the palm side plate there is no braking.

Glad I checked. So I’d need a side plate and a spool and it would have to fit perfect to make everything work…I’ll just buy a bfs reel

Braking systems are different. You'd need a spool designed to fit into the curado 70i/k or Scorpion 70. Off the top of my head I am not aware of Yumeya spools or Aliexpress spools for this platform. I think the Curado 70 MGL may be the lightest spool for this platform out there.

I will be buying a curado bfs this spring. I think it will be an awesome smallmouth weapon.

I’ve been using Curado 70 reels for Ned rigs for several years. I decided to try a Curado bfs reel just to see the difference. Now I have 4 of them.
