TD-Z's $199 shipped @ Cabelas

Featured Replies

I'm going to let the Cat out of the bag now...I've got my 4 on order :).  Daiwa must have had a bunch of TD-Z's left over, and since Daiwa makes most of Cabelas house branded reels, I suppose that is why they chose Cabelas to liquidate a bunch of TD-Z's for them.  When you order a reel, it says the shipping is prepaid from Japan.  This is easily the best deal on a new reel I have ever seen.  I just won a TD-Z on Ebay for $290, which I thought was a good deal in itself.  Get one while they are still here...I imagine somebody will buy them out in the next day or so and just Ebay them.

Just ordered one. I had a gift card for $65.00 left over from Christmas and the Cabela's bucks for $20.00 I was able to get it for $114.00. Now that is a deal! This is a $350.00 reel. These things are selling on Ebay right now used with scratches for $200 - $250. Get em while you can people!!

I really wish I had some spare cash.  I am not even a Daiwa user, but for that price I would "try" one out. ;D ;D

I am strictly Daiwa on baitcasters and strictly Shimano on spinning reels.  Haven't found a spinning reel yet I like more than the Stella.  I know,  I'm weird ::)

Thanks! :) I have two coming.

Dude, you have a serious sickness.   ;)

ok, need some info..what is the difference between the 103 and 105? I have 2 100's and if I remember correctly, the difference is primarily gear ratio (and maybe line cap).  can someone confirm the specs?

FD

I got two of the 105h's through the sponsor link above.  Thanks for the heads up!

Well, this definitely throws a wrench in to my plans.  I had been trying to decide if I should get a Shimano Chronarch or a Daiwa Zillion, and I am trying to avoid buying from Cabelas for a while since the last three reels I purchased there, were all returned with defects, but this may be a deal that I can't pass up.

I think I will see if BPS will do a price match since it is a published price on the internet.

BPS no longer has any TD-Z's...they were all pulled about 3 months ago.  Cabelas didn't have any either until 2 days ago.

Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Other than weight, what are the major differences between the TD-Z and the Zillion?

The 103 holds more line; I believe it holds 120yds of 12lb line, whereas the 105 holds 100yds of 10lb.   I ordered 103's for my C-rig and Pitchin'.

The TD-Z and Zillion share identical frame designs, but the TD-Z's frame is magnesium versus the Zillions aluminum frame.  The TD-Z's aluminum/ceramic hybrid spool is also lighter than the Zillion's spool.  The Zillion does have the Magforce Z backlash control versus the TD-Z's Magforce V.  The TD-Z also has an 8 disc carbon drag, but has rumored to chatter a bit when wet (I haven't noticec this at all).  Regardless; I was disappointed that they discontinued the TD-Z, and had been shopping for a brand new one to hit Ebay for under $300.  I finally found one on Monday...two days before I disconvered Cabelas got a shipment in at $199.

The Natural,

This is all your fault.....now I have 3 105's on the way!!!    ;D

I shall watch this board with dedication on a daily basis in search of a thread that has a link to sweet deals on Loomis, St. Croix, Kistler, or just about anything to match these to.    :)

My reels are going to be sent off for a custom paint job before I even take them out of the box.  I'm having 2 painted red, 2 painted yellow, and two painted metallic black; they will look identical to the TD-Z custom of 2004.  I'm not trying to fool anyone; I just like a more colorful reel :).

Here are the colors I have chosen...

Dang, Natural. Who's your sponsor; the bait monkey? I really did not need to see that. Got two on order now, thanks to you. I'm having them shipped to my office. I don't need two more reels to show up at home.

Cheers,

GK

I'm having mine shipped to my office as well  ;), and I just bought a SOL this week!! :)

d**n you >;):) I was looking for deals on the shimano speedmaster 201 for bass/light surf fishing.

Now I am expecting 2 TD-Z105HL soon. I've always wanted a TD-Z because sooo many members say it is one of the best. Before it was over $300. for one so it was too expensive to me but now I spend 400 on two. :-? And no I'm not going to use my TD-Z for surf fishing.  :)

Anybody have a spare doghouse? I am gonna need one when my wife finds out I bought Chronarch MG w/ G-Loomis rod and a TD-Z in the same week! Do you think the mortgage company will understand?
