Smaller frogs rod

Featured Replies

What is everyone’s go to frog rod for smaller frogs like jackal Kaera, Megabass gabarin jr and buzz toads?

For smaller walking frogs I like a 6'10 or 7' MH. The shorter rods are better balanced which makes them easier to use all day and I'm a little more accurate with them vs a 7'3 or 7'4 H.

For unweighted rage toads I find a 7'3 1/4-1oz MH with 15lb FC works well for me.

I have a Major craft days 6'9 MH/RF that did well walking the Kaera last year though I only caught a couple. It'll be the first up again this year too.

After posting this thread, I went digging in my rods and found a 6’10 MH/RF poison adrena that I was thinking would do the trick this season.

So looks like I might be on the right path. I’d like to use my kaera frogs but I haven’t found the right rod for them.

I'm curious as well. I shipped an OG Tatula 7'4" HF to Florida to use as a frog rod. It was my first foray into frog fishing. Got to use it on one trip with just one size frog. It was stolen before my visit the following year. Haven't designated a rod for frogs yet. Two rods might be better as I purchased a few brands of frogs of various weights. One ounce being the heaviest but don't know what the lightest weighs.

That rod would have been too much for the lightest. So does one pick a MH that fishes light or a MF that fishes heavy for lighter frogs? Will the MF cast a lighter weight better if both are rated for 1/4-3/4 ounce? I have four MF and one MR with this rating. Many MHF.

Or do you pick a rod like the Helium 3 7'3" Light MHF? TBH, it's not a rod I would normally consider for frogs. I'd rather use it for techniques requiring sensitivity.
