Simano Metanium

Featured Replies

Thinking of buying a Metanium, researching is confusing comparing the different reels. I am leading to a 150 MGLXB from the american market with a capacity of 12/110. Accoring to the 23 Metanium 100XG there is line capacity of 12/120 which indicates appr. 30 more feet of line capacity if I am reading there specs right, the only other difference in these two reels I can make out is the 150 MGL B has the brass gears and the 23 Metanium does not. price for 23 Metanium with tariffs is 283.40 and price for 150 MGL B is 489.99, difference of 206.59. Is it worth to have the brass gears for the additional price? Your thoughts and opinions please, Thanks

The metanium 100 has brass gears. Only the shallow edition has aluminium gears.

I was just looking into that a bit more and seen that.

Just get the 23 met jdm from your preferred Japanese site.

is there a difference in the JDM than the 100xg from Digitaka or are they the same. I would assume it is a jdm since it is from digitaka

Same thing. JDM just means the Japanese market sold version.

That's what I thought, Thanks, they make it confusing when you're not used to dealing with it. While I have you hear you wouldn't happen to have part numbers for replacement power grip knobs for the JDM 100 XG would you, having trouble locating that.

Afraid not. I love the shimano knobs so would never consider swapping them. That said, I’m pretty sure all shimano knobs are the same.

Not trying to be a knob, but. . . . (Curado 150M vs Metanium DC 70)

Could Your research on the 23 met is showing 100 size is 12/120 meters. Not yards?

It’s actually closer to 130 yards if try, which leds us to be believe the pages are just wrong.

100 size is 20 yrds or 60 feet more than 150 size?

I don’t think that can be true.

More likely shimano just take all their 150 size reel in USDM and say it’s same capacity.

Then international market they say 100 size is 12/100 and for some reason the met 100 is 12/120? The most likely thing is that the 100 and 150 USDM size is exactly the same.

internationally shimano just fudge the numbers so the 100 size and JDM smaller size met show a line difference of 20m for marketing purposes.

All other 100 size like the Calcutta 100 is 12/100.

Either way the size diff is likely not going to make a noticeable difference. Get the international 100 size.

The price on those Met have come way down on secondary market. Whether it’s 150 or 100 size.

So either way used is going to be cheaper than JDm or USDM.

If you hit fish hard and are fishing a lot I’d find something brass gear. Knobs and handles are cheap if you have a pref of bigger handles. Gomexus has good alternatives if you’re into those.

@Big Hands - I should have been clearer, I meant the fitment, not necessarily the knobs themselves. I think all of the current shimano knobs all have the same spindle and can be interchanged.
