prototype Dobyns rods today(baitmonkey attack)

Featured Replies

In response to my earlier post , i went out to do some window shopping today(baimonkey was right ther with me)

I found a whole rack of proto type Dobyns Rods.  At $150 each i couldn't say no.  So i have a 6'8" Med Xfast  and a 7' MH Xfast.

Dobyns uses Lamiglas blanks for his rods.

I held a Avid 70MHXf, right next to the Dobyns MH, and the weight difference was barely noticable while the difference in power/strength/backbone (what ever you call it) was very apparent.  I will get to try thm on the water the first time on Wednesday.

I will give a better review come wed night.

I handled them before they were on sale at the International Sportsmans Expo, and talked to Gary (dobyns) about them there as well. Absolutely awesome rods, both lines. I have always loved Lamiglas and dobyns seemed pretty cool too. I will add a rod to the arsenal, probably a medium spinning rod for finesse jigs and dartheads on light line. I think you will like them a bunch!

That is incorrect.

Dobyns rods are built overseas and do NOT use lamiglas blanks. Here is the info from Dobyns himself:

"G.Dobyns: I'm a fisherman. I want to design rods and promote product. My partnership with Lamiglas gives me instant sales staff, distribution, and warranty support. They are basically going to help me with the business side of things while I concentrate on design, promotion, and management of my pro-staff. We remain two separate companies and my prostaff and warranty policies are completely separate from Lamiglas as are our production facilities. Lamiglass still makes their product in Woodland, Washington and my rods will be built overseas, but this partnership helps me concentrate on the things that are important to me. Out of respect and gratitude for Lamiglas and their agreement to help me with all the business dealings, there will be a "Lamiglas" label on my rods, but again, we are still two independent companies."
