Treble hook and split ring weight chart (focused on Jerkbait balance)

Featured Replies

The process of upgrading or swapping out jerkbait hooks is a grind, so I built the attached sheet to confidently make changes without having to breakout a scale every time. It helps me upgrade hooks, replace hooks and dial in jerkbait action according to water temperature changes.

There are a number of fragmented threads touching on the topic, so I just consolidated my list with @00Bullitt's post from 2022 (Jerkbait Hook Replacements to Maintain that Delicate Balance

https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/247714-jerkbait-hook-replacements-to-maintain-that-delicate-balance/)

This includes weights for trebles and split rings, as well as stock hooks and rings for a number of jerkbait models (in grams and grains). I used two different scales for confirmation.

To any of the administrators, if you feel this post is better merged into a new or different forum, please do so. I wasn’t sure what to do about that.

Despite not covering all the options in the market and not exactly at semiconductor-level accuracy, this should still be [as my grandpappy used to say] ‘good enough for gov’t work.’

To help with ordering or specific identification I tried to include model and serial #’s - however, not all companies speak the same language.

More importantly, our community can grow it from here - I.e. more options, cranks, swimbaits?

Here is a little example form the sheet...

Gama G Finesse Shrt Shnk 339208 Size 4 Gram 0.44 Grain 6.8

Owner Hyper wire 5196-011 Size 1 Gram 0.05 Grain 0.8 Dia 4.8
Megabass Vision 110 Suspending Hook: Size 6 Gram 0.36 Grain 5.6 Split Ring: Size 2 Gram 0.9 ........

Wow

I hope spring thaw comes soon for you. Haha… just kidding.

Thanks for the chart, I’m going to print it and put it up in the shop.

Sorry to rebump this thread, but I wanted to provide a Google Drive link for this spreadsheet so you can view it more clearly or easily print it out.

Looks perfect from here - and anyone who wants a local-copy....there's an option under 'File' labeled 'Download'.

Thank you for this. This has been on my to-do list for a while. I am looking to complete a list for crankbaits and lipless too. If you have any data for these please post them.

Also does anyone have the weights for stock vision 110 jrs? Thanks.

No problem. That list actually has 110 Jr’s stocks on it also. (Hook Size 8, .27 gram / split rings size 1, .06 gram, 4.5 outside diameter). Prob easier to look at this link to Google Drive vs the original images provided. Plus, the link will be getting updated over time. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eLvGFbCxq42r1zZgodNog2-dfv1PqTYi/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=101682476362302263449&rtpof=true&sd=true

I was going to start digging into stock numbers for cranks as well but held off because the need to dial in crank weights isn’t as crucial - compared to suspending jerkbaits. This current list of trebles includes up to size 1 which gets you covered for a lot of small-med cranks and lipless - I’ll be going upto 1/0. As for crank stock hooks and split rings I’ll be adding some soon - but the world of trebles is so large that I’ll only be scratching the service.

Thanks! I also use a lot of smaller baits like jackall tn60s or aruku shad jr (3/8). I do upsize often on these but the extra weight does have an impact. At slower speeds it is more noticeable. That is why I often don’t do it early and late in the season when I need to slow down to get bites.

Roger. Good point on the smaller jerks - both of which I also use and will begin to add to the chart under “Cranks”. I’ll send a heads-up here when I do.

Updated Treble Hook and Split Ring size/weight chart. Added stats for a few more JBs as well as front and rear hooks for 45 small Cranks (<9' divers) and Lipless.

Sending as a link to Google sheet (just too many lines to be a legible printout).... https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eLvGFbCxq42r1zZgodNog2-dfv1PqTYi/edit?gid=1004069493#gid=1004069493

Please let me know if you see any material discrepancies
