Attn: Rod experts/builders please help with Duckett MaxCore rod questions

Featured Replies

I have always been a big fan of Duckett rods. I know what I like (and don't like) when I try a new rod, but I don't know anything about rod construction and I don't even speak the language. Could those of you that know rods please take a look at these specs and let me know what you think? $250 is creeping up on the max I will spend on a rod and my first possible red flag is that they are exclusive to a single retailer. Is there anything new in this build? Or are they proven blanks? If you're a gear guy or gal and have an opinion please share. It's times like this that I'm missing our old friend @fishnkamp . He would have the full scoop on them.

Basically every word in that description is marketing puffery. All you can do is read some reviews of real users, get one yourself, and feel it. Since it is TW, they have free returns (even on rods) so there is no harm in doing so.

Sorry OP, but I cannot help you with Duckett specs.

I am jumping in here because I want to point out this may the first rod and brand I have ever seen that says "built using AI."

This could be a first and surely not the last. We may be replacing men like Gary Loomis with AI.

I never even considered this until reading this thread. All new.

Curious if anyone might conclude AI can build better rods than humans?

Let us know how it goes with this rod.

Which is exactly why I posted. Hoping someone had some knowledge about the blanks. The AI thing and the "exclusive to (fill in any retailer)" is enough to prevent me from laying down my own money until there are extensive reviews.

I feel that Duckett may be misreading their primary audience with this.

AI still gets its input from people it’s just a design tool so I don’t care either way about that. You’re right to ignore the marketing jargon. TW is a trusted retailer. If Duckett puts all their eggs in that basket , so what? Best advice was already given: try one and see for yourself. Proofs in the pudding as they say
