front treble hook on jerk baits

So I've been using jerk baits a lot this spring with the cold April water. Somewhat frequently, the front treble hook will tangle with the main line attached to the o-ring of the jerk bait itself. I can tell instantly when this occurs, so I reel in and quickly untangle it.

My question is, can you remove the front treble hook to mitigate this issue without affecting the neutral buoyancy of the lure itself? Very rarely does the front treble account for catching fish.

YOU WILL MISS BITES.

Bass like to eat the head.

Just cut the line back 6 inches if it's kinked, re-tie and keep casting.

And if it keeps happening add a stiff piece of fluoro 12” long. I do that (with stiff mono) for topwater trebles as needed and it helps a lot.

GIM...I use a leader with jerkbaits and seldom have that problem, BUT... I do have a similar problem fishing shallow crankbaits and lipless cranks over/through weed cover having weeds on the front treble. For several years I've been cutting off just the leading tine of the front treble. This might be a better solution to your problem. (inline trebles are available if you change out trebles)
