Favorite worm rod specs?

Featured Replies

Just curious. I mostly fish a Texas rig, using either a 6" u-tail or a 5" Finesse worm with a 1/0 hook. For this method of Bass fishing... I prefer a 6'6" MHF rod.  I build my own rods and lean towards St Croix blanks. Of course, I spine all of my rods and balance them as well, so that makes a huge difference. My worm reel right now is a Calcutta 100. I recently caught a 12.11# Bass on this set up with 12# P-Line.

Just curious as to what some of your worm combos are. I see a lot of people using a 7' H rod for worm fishing.

SHXIII 7' Shikäri spiral wrapped, using a CU201b spooled with 17# Sensation, pitching 10" power worms on EWG 3/0 - 4/0's 3/8oz sinkers.

Or my SC3 7' MHF St.Croix spiral wrapped, using a CU201b spooled with 17# Sensation, pitching 7" power worms on EWG 3/0 - 4/0's 3/16oz sinkers.

Tight Lines!!!

My "worm" rod is used for all soft plastics. I prefer spinning tackle, airborne worms created a mess with baitcasters that I simply don't want to deal with. Anyhow, my rig is 7' MF, specifically a St. Croix Legend Elite ES70MF/ Shimano Stella 2500FB/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 and Gamakatsu or X-Point 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hooks. The GYCB 6" Senko is my "worm" of choice.

I have 2 both curado 200 reels custom g loomis 7' mh rods for all t rigs p line 12lb

for trick worms i use a curado 200 with and old 6'6 med allstar 8lb p line  can throw a weightless zoom trick worm a mile with it

I prefer 6' rods for worming. I just think they are better for finesse fishing, as you don't move as much line when you twitch your rod. The shorter rod I believe helps me slow down. True, I don't cast as far as the longer rods, but I feel I'm more accurate. I usually fish a St. Croix Legend Elite (EC60MF) or a Loomi GLX (CR722). I usually use 50# power pro, or at times 12# P-Line or Yozuri Hybrid. At times, if I want more distance for some reason I'll use a 7' IMX Loomis rod.

I use CR722GLX with Shimano 50mg for finesse worms and a MB844C IMX with a Calais for big T-rigged worms & swimming jigs. Mine are also my own builds, spiral wrapped & split grip.

I use two setups for t-rigging. A 7' MH fast action Quantum Tour Edition rod with Energy PT reel, spooled with 14lb test Transition for > 1/4oz weights and larger plastics. And a 6'3" MH fast action Team Daiwa Light & Tough rod, Energy PT reel, spooled with 12lb Transition for lighter weights and smaller plastics.

Cheers,

GK

I use two set ups for soft plastics as well. I use a 6'6" MF St. Croix Premier spinning rod for finesse plastics, and I use a 7' MHF Fenwick Techna AV baitcaster with a Shimano Citica 100 for bigger plastics.

I'm hoping that since forum members here recently bought 45 of the Team Daiwa Z's that one of them will decide to sell their "old" 50MG so I can upgrade my plastics set up.   :)

I have a Calcutta 100 and old Loomis MB783 that Reel Mech built for me years ago.  :)

I let the situation determine line size but always Trilene XT.

Hawgin,

You're going to have to wait a few weeks until all the new Daiwa reels have been serviced.   ::)

Thanks for all the replies guys. I was just curious. Looks like we all have our own likes and dislikes. That's what makes the world go round'!  :)
