What rod will be better?

I am not familiar with Phoenix rods, but I have heard they are good. But I am VERY familiar with the Daiwa line. On price point, the Phoenix M1 is roughly on par with the Tatula more than the Tatula Elite, so I would the Tatula Elite to be a step up.

Specifically, what rod are you looking at? What are you looking to throw on the rod? Once I know that, I can make some recommendations.

That's a tough one. I really like both.

As great as the Elites are they're essentially built on the same blank as the Cork Tatula, they just have more technique specific powers and tepers and have an upgraded guide train.

Personally I really like the blanks M1 uses and for all the people who say Phenixs are under powered< i dont understand that. The MH is spot on MH and can do anything a 7'2 MH should be able to. The Phenix is considerably lighter, has a guide train SIC inserts, although they're Essex guides, ive not heard of any problems with them.

IMO its a wash. If you like the minimal reels seats and a sub 4oz rod then go with M1. If Daiwa makes an Elite to fill a role that you need, then go with the Elite.

Never fished a phenix but all the tatula rods I have fished are great for the money. I've had the XT and regular in spinning models and they are an excellent value. The cork is not the greatest quality but no complaints other then that!

I find even in the same line of rods it varies. I'll use the Feather as an example because it's a very common rod and gets this feedback a lot. The 1/8-3/8 L I find is pretty spot on, certainly not infringing on UL status the way some L rods can. However, that 1/4-2oz H is just no where close to those expectations. I love that rod, but I treat it like a MH+ that tops out at about 1 1/4.
