I like to throw Airtail Rattlers and Hags Tornados, but its hard to find a good hook that can get through the rings on a long cast. I like the Gami finesse heavy covers, but the 4/0 is the biggest available. Looking for a good thinner wire EWG with a point angle like a Owner Haymaker, any suggestions? TYIA.

Hayabusa 956 - go all the way to 8/0 and are a lighter wire EWG.

Decoy has a good one too, but I can’t remember the name/number.

Have you given the Gammy G-finesse hybrid worm hook a try yet? I throw the 8" Hags on the 7/0 and the 6.5" on the 4/0 and feel like my hook up ratio is great. Love decoy as well, but I've only found their bigger hooks on jdm sites.

No, I havent ever tried the Hybrid hooks. I should get some just for flukes and senkos, they would be good for the megatails, but the gap seems a little small for a bait like an airtail rattler. The 4/0 has enough gap for a 6.5 tornado?

I really prefer straight shanks, but they go through baits like crazy. I started using a Ryugi Standard which is great at close range/pitching, but for long range the heavier wire doesn't penetrate as well at distance as I would like it with the MagMH I like to use.

They have a lighter wire widegap which im going to try as well as an ichikawa wide gap. Both of these hook has a positive angle on the hook in relation to the eye, which hopefully should give me the hook up % of straight shank, but the offset should help me get more fish per bait.

Im a fan of Hayabusa jigheads, trebles and the straight shank FPP, but have never used any of the EWGs. Might try the 956.

Im a fan of both brands. Decoy has a great straight shank except the keeper is just awful, its just some plastic thing that doesn't work well. I just cut it off and tie a heavy mono loop keeper with thread.

The hybrid hooks run longer than any other brand I've tried. The gap is narrower in relation, but the extra length gives plenty of room for the worm to get out of the way. Also, the tornados are relatively slim in that first 1/4-1/3 before it bulks out around the mid point. I might have actually undersold my hook up ratio with these hooks too. I actually can't remember ever losing a fish since I switched a couple summers ago, lots of times I need pliers to remove the hook from the lip or corner of the mouth. I prefer fishing 8" worms with these hooks on a M+/F now. I'll be near my gear tomorrow if you want any pics.

I just started using the tornados, but ive used the rattlesnakes and ATRs for years. IMO the most important aspect is the angle of the point. Ive used 2 and 3/0 finesse heavy covers with great results, but the way they blow through baits isnt ideal. I use mend it, but once the heads are blow out, theyre one and done after theyre pasted together.

Decoy makes a couple hooks similar hook to the Hybrid style. Ive only used 1, which is called the Dream hook and its a killer. Its a light wire, offset bend hook, with a smaller gap and slightly positive angle on the point. Those dream hooks just don't miss. Ill grab a pack of the Gami Hybrids just for stick baits and such and go from there.

If you can, shoot me a pic of the Hags baits with the Hybrids on them. Appreciate it.
