Crankbait Setup

Featured Replies

I just found this forum yesterday. It is great. Here is my question. I would like to get a crankbait combo. My father has a Abu Garcia Revo SX on a 7' Loomis Crankbait Series Rod. I like the combo but wanted to get some feedback on the Kistler Crankbait Rods. I have several Kistlers and really like the. They are both very light and the sensitivity is great. Also I would be using this combo for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and other topwater. Please give me all the feedback you can. Obviously if I am going to spend the money, I want to be as educated as possible. Thanks,

Got a Magnesium TS Crankbait, I like how the blank behaves but the rod is not perfect, there are issues in the reel seat, tried with all my Shimano, Daiwa & Garcia reels and the problem is there, the reel foot doesn 't sit perfectly tight and there 's some looseness in the fit, so it 's not the reel, it 's the reel seat.

The handle diameter is wide and beefy, pretty much like a hump grip, it 's an issue for me because I have small hands and those extra mm in the diameter makes the handle not fit my hand like a glove.

Should have purchased a GLoomis instead.  :-/

The Loomis crankbait series, or 'CBR's', are true crankbait rods in the sense they are a moderate-fast blank.  I don't believe Kistler has anything but fast blanks made for them.  You can get by with a medium power/fast action blank, but if you are buying a setup specifically for crankbaits; nothing will work better than a moderate/fast blank.  A Loomis cbr845 (which is a medium-heavy power) would be my choice as an all around crankbait rod due to the fact most people throw 3/8 or 1/2oz baits the majority of the time.  If you throw 1/4-3/8oz baits the majority of the time then you should select the cbr843.

I would take a look at the Crucial crankbait medium/mod. fast.  Its made of the new TC4 composite which is a new blend that seems to make them lighter but tougher.  Its rated for baits all the way up to 5/8 oz.  Plenty sensitive for crankbait fishing.  Not to mention its cheaper than loomis and Kistler and has a great over the counter warranty replacement program.
