Brush hogs as trailers for jigs, spinner baits and chatterbaits, opinions please

Featured Replies

Was going through my soft plastics in storage recently and discovered a 10-12qt storage tote full of Zoom 6" and 4" Brush Hogs so many in fact its just not possible to use even half of them up fishing them T-rigged so I was wondering what more experienced jig fishermen than I think of using them primarily as jig trailers but also as trailers for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. I would if need be cut them as needed to the correct length.

Brush hogs are a great stand alone baits T-rig or Shaky head but never used them as trailers.

Even the baby brush hogs are a little to much for my liking for a trailer.

Perhaps trimmed, they may work well.

I've saw a guy fish a jig with 3/4 of a plastic lizard as a trailer and catch bass, so 🤷

Not something I feel like doing, but there are no rules, so go for it and tell us what happens.

I use them for jigs and chatterbaits. They work well. For me it’s a more subtle presentation than a craw trailer. I use the baby brush hog on 1/4oz chatterbaits and on compact jigs.

Mostly swimming the jigs around weed lines. The little tails give some movement, and the flappers give it bulk.

Agree with @Bazoo - great on a finesse jig for a more streamlined compact profile. Just bite it down to where it just sticks off the hook and it looks amazing on the fall/dragging/swimming.
