Other Bluegill lures you guys use for different situations

Featured Replies

I want to see what other people use to catch bluegill depending on the water depth and structure, everyone knows abotu worm and bobber i use that and also rooster tail and micro cranks but im mainly looking for something that kinda floats whenever I fish in a creek fast moving shallow with rocks im always getting snagged on the rocks i want someting you guys use to either not get caught in rocks or it kinda floats on top of the water for bluegill but your also to reccomend other things you guys use for panfishing aswell for any other situations image.png

My favorite all around bluegill bait is a 1" gulp minnow in smelt or watermelon-pearl on a 3-4mm tungsten jig under a bobber or cast and jigged. It gets big gills(panfish period) extremely well and often get multiple per minnow. I used only those all spring and had a great season until they hit the beds, which is when I went back to bass fishing. At one point I had bass thumb and "panfish hand" lol

Don't target Blue Gills. Target Crappie on occasion. Bull Bream will hit plastics from Bobby Garland's Panfish kit. Like Rebel Critter baits and soft plastics also sold in kits. Mule Plastics especially the Donkey Tails. Amazon you can find soft plastics as I did Houderrong, never heard of them, yet to use them but they look good and paid less than 10 dollars for 50 of them. Hang ups? Going to get them with micro cranks. To save money check out Creme's hard micro lures and Wal Mart's Ozark Trails. Cheap and they perform just as good. The hook I use is the Gamakatsu #1 Worm, Straight Shank, Light Wire. Floats: Heddon Teeny Wee Torpedo and Tiny Spook both 1/8oz and float. Try to fish with a tight line, the bass can inhale it if not. And Rebel Critter baits and others float at the top. Can be twitched. Yellow Grasshopper is a lot of fun.

Good Fishing

For panfish I like a Bobby garland minnow on a 1/16 oz jig head or a drop shot with a 1/16 oz split shot, a tiny hook and some nightcrawlers from the garden. Just put a tiny piece on the tip of the hook. I’ve filled two 5 gallon buckets at a friends pond in 6 hours with that worm piece drop shot deal.

I use the same 1/80th oz jigheads as pictured above, but I just buy cheap 1" grubs and tear the tails off so it's just the body. Cheap and super effective. I can cast them without a bobber on my UL but they work well under a bobber also.
