I'm having the reel redone in a "special" anodized finish.  I will be sending you the reel ReelMech to take it apart and then send the housing back to me so that I can get it done.  Wait til you see the finished product.  :o

Please let me know how this goes when you get it done.  I have one and have been thinking the same thing.  What color are you getting it anodized? :o

Redlinerobert,

Be glad to do that for you, I have done it for a couple of tackle shop owners that re-did the finish on some older JPM TD's, they came out real nice.

Absolutely.  I am hoping that I can convince Abel Reels to do this special finish for me.  It will look pretty cool once it's all said and done.

Redlinerobert if you just want to anodize your reel then the type of aluminum does not matter since the process is the same for all aluminums. You may want to consider Alodine over anodizing.

Alodine the registered trade name of Amechem Products, Inc., for a conversion coating chemical which forms a hard, unbroken aluminum oxide film on a piece of aluminum alloy.

The oxide film produced by Alodine serves the same function as the film produced by anodizing, but it does not require an electrolytic bath. Alodine conforms to specifications MIL-C-5541B.

Anodizing the formation of a hard, airtight, unbroken film of oxide on the surface of a piece of aluminum alloy by an electrolytic action. The aluminum alloy is the anode of the electrolytic cell, and chromic acid is used as the electrode.

Yeah the finish is touch on the Alpha Itos.. should look sweet done. But with the process your getting done the color results arent always guarenteed, expecially if you get multiple parts done the same color. They can look a little off. If your just doing the housing though should be fine, gl.
