Carolina rigging

Featured Replies

What would you guys use for Carolina rigging? Rod? Reel? How do you rig the line and with what plastic? Thanks

I use a 7' St Croix Premier MHF, Citica 200D, 17 lb. Trilene XT.

Terminal tackle is a #5 black barrel swivel, a 1/2 oz. egg sinker, a red plastic bead, Gamakatsu or Owner Cutting Point hook.

As for the bait, anything and everything.  Trick worm, brush hog, lizard, tube, etc.

Rigging...I tie the swivel to the end of the main line using a palomar knot.  Then I cut the main line above the swivel.  How far depends on how long of a leader you want.  I always cut it about 5" longer than what I need to allow for the line used to finish tying.

Put the sinker and bead onto the main line, then tie on the swivel and leader.  Tie on the hook and away you go.

Thanks alot for the help............... Just thought that it was more complicated than that.

I use a Loomis mbr844/TDZ and 17lb fluorocarbon.  I utilize a carolina keeper with a drop of super glue instead of a swivel, which dramatically increases sensitivity due to strike vibrations not being canceled out by the swivel.  I use a Tru-Tungsten sinker in 1/2-3/4oz and a glass bead or brass clacker...sometimes both.  90% of the time I C-rig in the Summer, on points and such, and go with a worm or french fry.

i use a longer rod .... i have a 7ft6 st croix premiere flipping stick .... i feel i can move more line on a hook set  with the longer stick .....  i like a heavy stick because i use a 1 oz weight ..... the bigger weight will give you a better feel of the bottom ....  the heavy stick will get that rig out there ....  this is just what works best for me ....imo  ;D

Team Allstar 827C - 6'10 heavy/x-fast tip., Shimano Cruxis reel, P-line CX 15lb. At least a 3/8oz tungsten wt if i can get away with it. usually use a 6" shorter leader(12lb P-line CX) than what I think I should use. Always gets me more bites for some reason. Plastic bead and smallest swivel possible.
