Featured Replies

I have no idea what kind to get him.... I want to get him a new, nice reel.  He loves freshwater bass fishing.  Can someone suggest a good reel or a reel/rod combo??  Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

I need to get more information apparently! ;D  I was thinking of $250 give or take.

A gift certificate might be a better option.

You can still go to the store with him when he is checking the equipment out.

I've been married for about 1,000 years and that's what I would prefer. Asking my wife to pick out fishing equipment would be like sending me to the mall to buy her a pair of shoes...

That ain't gonna happen! :;)

MOcity,

The gift certificate to a Bass proshops or Cabelas or Gander mountain is a great idea. It will show you were paying attention because it is for his hobbie ( and an easy way out to boot!). If you do decide to actualy pick something out, price range and whether he uses baitcasting or spinning gear would be a great start. Like someone said if you know what brands he likes then that would help big time. Some of the major brands of reels are Shimano, Pflueger, Daiwa, Okuma, Abu Garcia etc. With this information a whole bunch of people here will help you out with rec's.

RW that pretty much takes care of me and the mall as well! LOL

My daughter and I were talking not too long ago and she said how hard it is to buy for some folks. She said she was lucky when it came to me "just pick up a gift certificate from Bass Pro". I know it doesn't sound as personal but everyone is  happier this way...

I agree A gift certificate is a great Idea, but you gotta realize ...If you give me one! get your stuff....Oh ...NO honey your hair looks great, I'll be waiting in the car! ;)

Through my inquires I now am being told..

Shimano Curado Baitcast Reel

Does anyone have any opinion of this one?

You are right though, GC may be the way to go.

The Shimano Curado is an excellent reel, but there are several models. This is the one I would suggest and this is a GREAT price, plus free delivery!

Wow... amazing.  I was about to hit the button to order and his brother said he has a fairly new Shimano Curado.  What are the odds.  I know there are different types but maybe I should get something different?  Maybe a GC is the way to go.............  Bummer

I know gift certificates can seem like a gift you put no thought into, but trust me on this.  Men are very fussy about their fishing tackle. You could get him a great reel but something as subtle as retrieval speed could dissapoint him.

May I suggest that you get him the BPS gift certificate.  In the envelope put in a print out of the reel you were going to give him, with some kind of cutesy note.

He'll love it.

Or get him a Daiwa Fuego baitcaster and be done with it  ;)

good luck,

He's lucky to have a GF who goes through all this trouble.

Alright AVID you convinced me!  I shouldn't be picking out fishing equipment anyway...... and thats a understatement!  I am going to get a GC, print out the pic of the one ROADWARRIOR suggested, put a note with it and put it in some sort of tackle box.  At least I tried... I should print out this thread!

Thanks for all of yalls help!  HAPPY FISHING!

Anytime m'lady

You tried????? You did great! He will love it, when he picks out what he wants tell us what he bought! I bet its another Curado.

I got to thinking I have a birthday coming up. I hinted to my wife a Gander Mountain gift certificate would be awesome. Better yet I asked her to get a bigger box put a Las Vegas show girl in the box holding the certificate now there's a present!

Man my arm hurts! LOL

She has a sense of humor just not quite that much!
