I read the reviews on these DT cranks, and a few said the lips break off pretty easy. The blurb given about these is that "it will get down to the specific depth the fish are ""suspending"" at." I'm guessing Rapala made these not with the intention for them to be used around rocks or be bottom bumped. This may be why some of the lips are breaking off for some guys. It says that the lip is "ultra thin", which in itself is sort of an indication that it is fragile. Anyone have the problem of the lips breaking off with these lures? Anyone think the same as me, that these are probably meant for open water applications?

Thats a good question.  I use my DT's for hitting the top of the submerged weeds and open water fish.  I never ran mine off rocks or rip-rap yet.  I will have to find some rocks and see how the lure does.

PS For submerged weedbeds and open water applications, the DT's are great.

I use the Flat DT 3 and 7 to bang on the rocks underwater.  They get beat up but I haven't lost a lip yet......yet???

I use all the DTs and I like them a lot but the lip is very fragile, broke 3 of the just last month.  

I 've only experienced one lip breakeage since they came out, preciselly this weekend, but I don 't think I can attribute it to the lip being thin, I admit it was my fault, made a cast and the lure slammed against a huge rock hard ..... I guess I put too much "spirit" into that cast :-/.

I haven't had any break, and I like to crash a crank into things. Rocks, stumps, whatever; I try to hit it with a crank. These have been good baits for me. I'd try sending them back to the manufacturer. I've sent baits back to Rapala that didn't run true or suspend properly, and they will take care of you. They even sent me some freebies, once.

I havent had any break off on me, not yet anyway. They have been a great lure for me, only one Ive had more sucess with is the lucky craft pointer.

I fish them all the time and have never had one break on me.  The only thing I have notice with the DT's is that I have yet to find two of the same lure that run the same.

Have only had one lip break off.  But it was my fault, I cracked the lip by throwing it into rocks and later that day the lip broke completely.

I have yet to have any lips BREAK off these cranks. However, just last week I landed a spirited 2.2 lb largie. He fliped and flopped so much he pulled the crank right off the bill. Didn't break the bill, just pulled the business end of the crank off. That's probably nothing a little dab of super glue won't fix. Other than that, these are awesome cranks and are a staple in my arsenal.

No breakages here and I throw them alot.

Add me to the list of happy DT owners. None of my 30+ DT cranks have damage. (went nuts when bps had a sale on them)
