Reel Grease

Featured Replies

There has been alot of discussion about reel oils and line conditioners, but what about grease?

What are some of the establised reel grease names.  Ones, with a track record of quality and effectiveness.

Where do y'all put grease rather than oil on your spinning and casting reels?

The_Muddy_Man,

The instructions on the box said "real grease", not reel grease.

avid,

I don't use grease. I use oil occasionally on all outside moving parts. Grease is ReelMech's responsibility.

Grease on the gears, and that's about it. I used to put grease on the level-wind until ReelMech set me straight on that. Some drags require grease, others do not. Check your manuals to see.

For years I've been using the grease from Zebco. It comes in a small accordion type tube that makes it easy to get the right amount to the right place. I've had no problems using this stuff, and it's cheap.

Cheers,

GK

Gear grease on the gears except for the worm gear ( Penn 's blue grease )

DRAG GREASE on the wet drags ( Cal 's drag grease )

Very low viscosity oil on bearings. ( Daiwa, Garcia or Shimano oil )

More viscous oil on the worm gear. ( Penn 's Reel Lube oil )

I use Cal's Grease on both the gears and drag (where needed).  It seems to work well.

Hmm...

Yep, Mike is here in Germantown, too. I've been trying to get that "slug" to go fishing with me for a few years now. I even hound him at the BPS seminars he hosts and I bring all my big smallmouth pics to boot! I'll send you a PM Monday. I'm off to my #1 son's college graduation and out-of-pocket for a few days. If you get Mike out fishing, I'll sneak up behind you guys down on the Tennessee River.

I hope it things works out that I get to meet you. My fishing partner and I fish almost every Saturday for striper this time of year. I have a trip to Bull Shoals 6/7-10, but if you are going to be here any other weekend in June, you and your husband are welcome to fish with me.

thanks road warrior. depends on gas prices.. we watching the prices  and changing mind almost everyday, we say no and then think"well, if prices stay at this rate, we'll go" and then dang, next day, gas price goes up again.  ;)
