seems like most people like a medium heavy rod for weightless soft plastics for the backbone.  dont you feel they are too stiff for that application.  i do a lot more casting than hooksetting so i like the medium power myself

Part of it is just personal preference, another consideration is where you fish.

Heavy cover and structure sometimes requires you to move the fish.

I fish all soft plastics on medium power/ fast action spinning tackle.

WhenI read "finesse fishing" I think small lures-less than 1/8 oz., spinning gear, light line, tough bite. I fish weightless plastics with baitcasting gear until I think I need to go finesse.

I keep two spinning rods in the boat at all times, 1 6 1/2 ft. med. hvy, and 1 7 ft. MH.  Would not change either one of them for a med. action rod when it comes to soft plastics or standard finesse fishing.  Now if I am dropshotting that is another story.  I use a 8 1/2 ft. MH spinning rod with back bone but a real soft tip.  

Like NBR said...my finesse fishing is light lures on light lines for catching wary bass. I use either a 6'6 or a 7' ML with a fast action. For my weightless soft plastic fishing I like a 6'6 MH. The shorter rod makes skipping under boat docks and other places easier and the MH helps with the hookset.

I use MHF on all soft plastics. It's really personal preference. Some like M and I've seen some guys using H for the same application.

guys, don't sell yourselves short in thinking finesse tactics are only for gun shy bass!!  Not at all.  Some of our biggest fish come on tiny morsel offerings.

I caught a 12.11 and a 10.6 in April using a 4" Finesse worm, 1/0 hook and 12# test. I never use real big baits.
