clear  water   need clerification

Featured Replies

hello    i was just thinking of  braid  bieng seen in clear water based on a lot of posts     i just want to know  what is considerd clear,   if you have a white cup in clear water    how far down can you see it      i know where i fish that is 6 feet  if you are lucky   is this clear or not    just  curius   :)

I personally would consider that "clear."  I fish braid all the time and don't have an issue.  If the fish are feeding and they see the lure they're gonna eat it.

I fish water that, at times, you can see the bottom at 20'.

I have also fished braid with and without leaders in it for the past decade, and I have absolutely no doubt that braid DOES deter strikes if fish are pressured or in very clear waters.

Your mileage may vary - - just my experiences......90% of the time, I have a leader on in water like this.

I tried an experiment in clear water with 5 friends.  We were all fishing basically the same baits.  Another guy and I were using braid w/o any leader.  The other guys were using leader or mono.  The braid we were using was 8/1.  The 2 of us got our butts waxed that day.  Since them I have started using leader on all my braid 'cause I don't like that slikery feelin' on my butt. :)

Lately I have been fishing in water where the visibility is less than one foot. Braid still makes a difference in the bite, depending on what your presentation is.

For fast lures and reaction bites, braid isn't making much of a difference. For the slower presentations, you can't buy a bite with braid.

Part of that may have to do with very heavy fishing pressure at this lake.

where I have been fishing lately you can see 15 feeet or so.  One pole I have braid and you can see it in the water.  The other is Hybrid.  It hits the water and POOF! it's gone!
