I think you could use the brakes from your old Duster......

Perfect line, Carl, just what muddy would have said if the roles were reversed!!  ...lol

Muddy,

I think the C3 "Classic" series are the ones with the 6 pin brake.  Sounds like you got a "regular" C3.  (the funny thing is that all these years, there were no 6 pin brakes on the C3's so they name the new style reel "Classic"  go figure.  :-? )

You don't need it, just use the tension cap and fire away.  (just avoid real light lures on that reel)

i dont know anything about brakes, but i use the 5501, which is the left handed version and they are just great....i have 2 now and plan to buy another one soon

i dont know how light flechero is talking about but i cat 1/4 oz lures a mile on these reels

The 5000 series has had a pair of brakes for years.  Originally you got other sizes of brakes, normally one size smaller and one larger.  Unscrew the thumbscrews and you could get right to them.  In all those years I don't think I ever changed them.

Those reels just take a little more thumb edumacation to operate.  They're pretty easy reels to throw.  If my hands and wrists weren't in such bad shape I'd still be using them.

The 5500 is one of the best basic reels available. I've fished them for 20 years after snook on the coast. I have landed 100lb. tarpon with it mounted on a flipped stick. I spool mine with 20lb. silver thread, can't see any pike that will beat you in a fight. Even with a 2 brake system, don't worry about it.
