Uh-oh...Revo SX Problems???

Featured Replies

O.K...let me start by saying that I'm not in the Shimano posse, I owned 5 Revo SXs, and I have defended/praised these reels since they came out....and I do like the 4 that I still have.

But...I just want to be fair and maybe the first to say that I had to return one of them recently.  I had it four months and something wasn't right with one of the gears.  I'm not a reel expert, but something was wrong inside when I reeled it, like the gears weren't lubed or something.  It wasn't "tight" and smooth like the other reels.  It seemed to work fine, but it "felt" messed-up.

I don't know what was wrong with it....probably just a lemon.  But I had to be honest and give the Shimano posse something more to feed on..... :'(

Every manufacturer puts out a lemon or two occasionally.

i had a revo sx and also just returned it to bps different problem though. the backlash control didnt work. i have no problems with any of my other baitsasters. i have a brand new daiwa tierra ($30 cheaper) that i love and casts smooth and as far every time. ;D

I think it takes a couple of years for equipment to gain a reputation, good or bad. The Revo may turn out to be a great reel and it sounds like you are very pleased with your others. As Burley said, all manufactures are going to have an occasional lemon. It's still under warranty and chances are the replacement reel will work out fine.

Good luck.

Trout makes a valid point.  Also, how much did you use that one particular reel?  I don't lube the reels I have, unless I use them, or pull them out after a long winter.  I won't just go out after 5 months and use them, they need to be lubed first!  :)  I have one older reel that needs to be lubed properly, and would work fine, but it's like 10 years old, and has been neglected.  It was my first reel when I was a kid...  lol  :)  I need to get into the habit of lubing more...  :)

Excellent train of thought.

Lube more and use less!!!

Meaning lubricate the support bearings and shims more often, and use less oil when doing so. No matter whether or not they have been stored or used every week of the month.

Tight Lines All!!!
