Which line to choose and why?

Featured Replies

Its near the end of the month and my funds are about dry. I needed to buy some line for a new baitcaster. I wanted a spool for $10 or less.

These are my choices:

Suffix Mono 10lb in clear

Stren Original 10lb in clear, green or flourescent blue

Trilene XL 10lb in clear, green or flourescent blue

Spiderwire mono 10lb in Clear or Green

Spiderwire mono XXX 10lb in Clear or Green

So many choices, how does one know which is best. I cant just whip out a computer and compare the lines on the spot.

I know there are way better lines out there, but this was at Walmart and I only had $10 to spend on line.

I ended up getting the #10 Original Stren in Green(the lake I fish has pretty clear water but in deeper water it appears to be green on the surface.

Anything wrong with my choice? I mustve stood there 30 minutes trying to decide. I went to the cashier at least 4 times ,each time with a different brand in hand. I decided to just bite the bullet and go with the Stren...Good choice or NO? I almost went with the Spiderwire Mono, but it just didnt rub me right. Did I good,What would you all have done given these choices?

For me, I'm a Berkley fan and really like the Trilene Maxx (casts smooth and is VERY durable)! I've used XL in the past, casts pretty good but it's not as abrassion resistant as I'd like. XL would be good in light cover or open water tatics (IMO).

I've decided to give the Suffix Elite a try this year. It casts similar to the Maxx. From my limited use of it so far, it is fairly durable too. My only small problem I have here is the availability in the pound test the local stores carry. But that gives me an reason to make a trip to BPS!   ;D

Don't know much about the other lines, sorry I can't help you there!

sufic seige in smoke green,i use it in  8 #very strong and durable,IMHO its better than the elite

I'm glad you said that.  I was thinking I was the only person that liked MAXX.

BPS recently had Yo-Zuri Hybrid on sale: 1000 yards for $6.88.

I bought a few spools.   8-)

I have used some of those lines and they're all pretty good. I will give the edge to Sufix. It has excellent castibility and seems quite abrasion resistant. In addition, I give it the edge because it seems to resist memory the best of all those lines.

Good luck!!!
