Okay so I'm wanting to spend some cash on an ultralight setup. I want to put together my own combo. I do not want a 100 dollar rod for this because I'm going to be using this on the side for trout/pan fishing.

So I came across this rod at Bass Pro that has received great reviews so far. Its a glass rod. It really interests me. Should I go with the 5 foot or the 5' 6"? Whats the difference when I'm going to be taking it out for perch, trout, and some pans?

Then I want to team it up with the Pflueger Trion gx7 ultralight reel

Thoughts on this setup? Its not bad from a pricing standpoint and I really want to go with the Pfluegers. My wife is getting me a President for my birthday in which I'm going to spend my money on a St Croix premier. That will be my regular LM and SM bass setup.

But I really want to get some UL fishing in next year.

Thanks for any advice or thoughts on the glass rod.

 Really showing my age here . When I started bass fishing and a number of yrars after 'glass was all there was ;D. Haven't picked one up in quite a while though. I think I would go with the 5'6" or a 6' if they had it. I'm kinda sold on Shimano but Pflueger makes a nice reel also...

Yeah the glass rod intrigued me. Never owned one before. Kind of excited to test it out. For that price why not?

I didn't check out any of the links, but my personal preference is for a 5'6" rod over a 5'. A glass rod should be fine. Catch a nice bluegill on a UL and you'll experience great sport.

Really have my heart set on the one I posted links to.  

I use to use a 5' with my UL rig.  All the weight was in the back with the reel, and the casting was not that great.  I bought a 6' Quantum at Wal-mart and i like that one much better.

I have a 6' pole at home that I can use so I'm going with the 5'6" rod this time.

I  would look at where you are going to fish. Sometimes the extra 6" makes a nice tree slapper. All depends on location.

Going to be using it in all open areas for the most part.

I have used my 6'6" rod for most of the year in some tight quarters and did just fine.

The nice thing will be taking it on my raft. Having the 5'6" compared to the 6'6" , life will be good sneaking up on them trout on the open water of the small lake that I fish.
